## About the Role CloudBees is building a governance layer for software delivery called CloudBees Unify. The Java team works on CDRO (Continuous Delivery & Release Orchestration), a decade‑old enterprise product used by large engineering organisations. As a Software Engineer – Java you will join a distributed team of about 10 engineers across India, Europe and the US, using AI‑assisted coding tools like Claude Code to modernise a complex codebase while keeping it stable. ## Key Responsibilities - Own core Java components such as the REST API, pipeline execution engine and persistence layer. - Reduce complexity by modernising legacy subsystems, shrinking product surface area, and improving test coverage. - Use Claude Code (or similar AI tools) as part of your daily workflow to accelerate development without sacrificing quality. - Write comprehensive unit and integration tests and document your work for an async, globally‑distributed team. - Avoid becoming a single point of failure by sharing knowledge and maintaining clear documentation. ## Required Qualifications - Minimum 4 years of professional Java development experience in production‑critical systems. - Strong awareness of AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, etc.) and hands‑on experience using them. - Experience with relational databases (SQL, JPA/Hibernate) and familiarity with Oracle or PostgreSQL. - Ability to navigate large, mature codebases, formulate hypotheses, and ship reliable changes. - Discipline in writing tests early and communicating blockers promptly. ## Preferred Skills - Groovy (quick learning ability valued over prior experience). - Kubernetes & Helm for deploying and debugging workloads. - Experience with CI/CD internals (Jenkins) and distributed system components such as message brokers (ActiveMQ, Artemis, RabbitMQ) or coordination services (Zookeeper). - Front‑end exposure (React/TypeScript) is a plus. ## Working Conditions - Hybrid work model based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India (office + remote days). - Standard hours: 9:30 am – 6:30 pm, Monday‑Friday. - Reasonable accommodations provided as per the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. - CloudBees is an equal‑opportunity employer committed to an inclusive workplace.
